Temperatures
Winter temperatures during December to April hover around -4 degrees Celsius to +4 degrees Celsius. Winters are generally amongst the mildest in Canada. Summer temperatures hover around the mid to high teens with warm summer days in July and August even reaching above 22 degrees Celsius.

Currency
Most commercial establishments accept Visa and Mastercard. American Express and Diners Club cards are also accepted at some. Smaller businesses still accepts cash only. Cash transactions are made in Canadian dollar which is currently on par with the US dollar. For currency conversions, visit http://www.xe.com. There is a branch of Canadian bank, Scotia Bank, in Twillingate as well as electronic bank machines that will dispense cash 24 hours a day.

Sales Tax
Consumers in Newfoundland and Labrador pay 13% sales tax on purchases. Some items are exempt from sales tax.
What should I pack?
Locals joke that in Newfoundland you can experience all 4 seasons in one day! From June to September, make sure that you dress in layers and have a rain/wind jacket, sweater, hat and sunscreen with you. Always bring comfortable walking or hiking shoes. For a visit in fall and winter, fall is cool and crisp, great hiking weather. Winters are usually mild with a normal temperature of 0 degrees Celsius. Bring along your winter boots, rainproof winter jackets, hats, scarves and mittens. A camera is a must and binoculars will be useful for iceberg viewing and whale watching.
Medical Services
Twillingate has a hospital for medical emergencies. If you are a resident of Canada, you should carry your "medicare" card with you just in case you need medical attention. International visitors need to ensure that they have travel health insurance before visiting.
