The name Twillingate comes from the French word "Toulinquet" which was given to the islands by French fishermen, who named them after a group of islands off the French coast, near Brest, also called Toulinquet.

Ted Stuckless is a well-known artist who operates from the Driftwood Gallery on Main Street, where you’ll find paintings, carvings, jewelery, pottery and more.

Twillingate Gallery

This museum, set at the Iceberg Quest boat tour location at 52 Main Stree right on the ocean, is the newest addition to the art scene in Twillingate.  The gallery shows the art of Nina Keogh and photographer John Satterberg.

Gilbert Manuel

The original work and prints of artist Gilbert Manuel can be viewed at Orange Hall, Main Street Twillingate.

Crazy QuiltThe true art of this island, is however in the crafts that are not in galleries. Look out for Newfoundland crazy quilts or for exquisitely hand-knitted knitted items such as sweaters, mittens, hats or vamps (knitted socks).
